Jenny Donoghue
Jenny Donoghue (born 28 October 1987) is a British actress 1. She currently lives and works in New York, having studied at New York University since 2006. Donoghue performs sketch comedy 2, MusicAL theatre 3, downtown theatre 4 and film 5. She has represented Wales and the United Kingdom, in international theatre festivals in Japan, France and Monaco, and has performed in comedy festivals around America, including the Skidmore National College Comedy Festival 6 and the Slate Festival at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Early life
Born Jennifer Hannah Donoghue at St David's Hospital in Cardiff, Wales. Donoghue is the daughter of Jane Susan (née O'Grady) a primary school teacher, and Steven Donoghue, a barrister. Donoghue has one younger brother, Steven Donoghue, who is a musician based in England. Jenny lived in Tremorfa, Cardiff until the age of 16. She attended Baden Powell Primary School until Year 5, when she moved to Coryton Primary School where her mother was teaching, and then on to Whitchurch High School, known locally for its excellence in music and drama.
Jenny began performing in the UK at the age of 6, and continued throughout her childhood. She attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she studied at the The Meisner Extension, Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, and the Experimental Theatre Wing. While at NYU, Donoghue was a member of the sketch group Hammerkatz. She is featured in Hammerkatz's comedy videos on their website 7 and youtube 8.
Career
Jenny Donoghue will graduate from Tisch School of the Arts in 2010 with a BFA in Theatre. She can be seen at Joe's Pub 9 this May in a cabaret based on Rodgers and Hart songs, directed by Sutton Foster and Deborah Abramson 10. Donoghue also devises original theatre works, and will be premiering her show Creep: The Un-Adventures of Bubble Girl at NYU's Experimental Theatre Wing this Spring. She can also be seen performing sketch comedy every month at the UCB Theatre's Backyard Brawl 11 with Hammerkatz, as the current defending champions of the competition determined by audience ballot.
