Jason Maek
Jason Sizer (born September 20, 1987), better known by his stage name Jason Maek, is an American electronic music and hip hop recording artist from the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. In 2014, he began to gain major recognition following the release of his debut visual album, Maek Pandamonium Visual Album. He also is the founder of Maek.
Background
Jason was born on September 20, 1987, and grew up in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. As someone who excelled in academics, Sizer entered college at the age of 16 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and earning his degree at 19. Later he would receive his in Urban and Regional Planning and worked on his PhD in Sociology. While he has had much success in school, he felt like something was missing. In an interview with Hype Magazine, Sizer stated “That was a really tough decision. I loved college, but my education did not provide me with artistic outlets. I felt too one dimensional.”
After spending some much time at unsatisfying jobs, Sizer left the corporate world to build the first completely free music electronic record label. The label is designed around giving musicians an alternate platform to release their music while making a profit from their craft.
Music career
Jason Maek released his debut, EP on Soundcloud on March 25, 2014. He posted the controversial video, God Made All Of Us as the first video released off the album on YouTube. The video received a lot of negative feedback from hate groups, who had the video temporarily removed. The second single EW, handles the complexities of race and struggle.
Jason Maek’s first LP was a visual album titled Maek Pandamonium Visual Album. He collaborated with labelmate, Zaena to create the project. The project was called the most important EDM and electro album of 2014. It took 17 music videos and weaved them into an abstract storyline.
