Inverse (hip hop group)

Inverse is a hip hop group from Los Angeles, California, consisting of two rappers: Tunji (born Olatunji Balogun, June 18, 1983), and Toby (born Toby Scott Ganger, January 22, 1982). They are closely affiliated with Kentucky hip hop group and CunninLynguists and the QN5 Music label, though the group is unsigned.

The two rappers met in early 2001 and began working together on demos, appearing on releases from CunninLynguists and Swedish producer Soul Supreme in 2005. The group's first project, So Far (The Collection), was released for free via the internet on New Years Day, 2008, garnering the group a substantial online following through distribution on hip hop blogs, messageboards, and Myspace.com . Their followup project So True EP was supposed to be released on New Years Day 2009, but was delayed until on January 7, 2009. The EP was also released as a free download via the group's blog.

On June 30, 2009, Inverse's video for "So Far" debuted in the FreshMen competition on Inverse on MTVU. The video was directed by Donlee Brussel and featured cameos from song producer Oren Yoel and hip hop violinist Paul Dateh.

Inverse's frequent production collaborators include Kno of CunninLynguists, M-Phazes, Cook Classics and keyboard player/producer Adam Berg. Their style is usually considered underground or alternative hip hop, and their lyrical style is often very hopeful, optimistic and positive. The group claims their biggest influecnes are OutKast, Black Star, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill and Atmosphere. Inverse frequently performs with a five piece live band and a DJ.

In May 2009, Toby announced via his Myspace page that he is working on a solo album entitled Evolutionary.
