Institute - Savannah
Institute was a SLUDGE Ambient band from Savannah, Georgia. First appearing on Fish Fur Records with the album 13 Planets (album), Institute was quickly linked up to Yellow Dog Records, a hardcore punk label from Berlin Germany. Institute released Two Shadows (album) and The Piano Player (Institute album) within the years of 2002 and 2005 with Yellow Dog. In 2006 another band appeared out of nowhere with not only the same name, but a very similar logo. Legally nobody can say anything other than the Savannah (and the legally originally trademarked) Institute were eventually very happy to change their name for future releases, though all past releases are still in print and available from stores, distros, and mailorders worldwide. Institute continued under various monikers until 2007, when the band had officially become 10 years old, and has now vanished into a slew of other projects.
Biography
Institute was an everchanging lineup of musicians gathered by David Rapp to essentially respond to the sound that was being created in Savannah, which is globally known now as The Savannah Sound thanks to Damad, Kylesa, and Baroness (band). Institute first appeared with 13 Planets (album) released on Fish Fur Records before moving to European label Yellow Dog Records to release Two Shadows (album) and The Piano Player (Institute album). In 2006 another band with the same name appeared, and though there was some dispute, Institute came away more than happy to change their name. They have since split up into several different projects.
