Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA-Butler)

The Institute For Study Abroad at Butler University (also known as IFSA-Butler) was founded in 1988 as a non-profit organization, and currently co-sponsors programs that provide college and university students all over North America the opportunity to study abroad at 90 colleges in 16 countries. The Institute For Study Abroad has long been considered "one of two dominant placement bureaus linking American students with appropriate courses in foreign institutions." The other dominant institution in this industry, Arcadia University (formerly known as Beaver University), formed a partnership with IFSA-Butler in 2005, known as The Alliance for Global Education.

History

In 1999, IFSA-Butler was the first organization to create a program in Cuba after the revolution, in partnership with Universidad de Habana.

Inspired by the Lincoln Commission's call to send 1M American students overseas by 2017, IFSA-Butler aligned with Arcadia University to form the Alliance for Global Education in 2005.

In 2008, founder and Chairman of the Board Dr. David Gray was awarded the title of "Officer of the Order of the British Empire" (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II.
