Ilryong moon

Ilryong Moon is a member of the school board for Fairfax County Public Schools. He was vice chairman of the board in 2005 and served as chairman in 2006. He is fluent in Korean and English.

Political Career and Community Involvement

Ilryong Moon has lived in Northern Virginia for over thirty years. In addition to ten years of involvement with the school board, Ilryong Moon has been a member of the Governor's Urban Policy Task Force, the Fairfax County Planning Commission, and the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He has also been a member of the Annandale Rotary Club.

Ilryong ran for Braddock District Supervisor to replace Sharon Bulova in 2009 after her election to Chairman of the Board of Supervisors but was defeated by John Cook.

On the Issues

Ilryong believes in maintaining the high academic standards, modifying the Fairfax County Grading Scale, putting money into schools and not into county administration buildings, and placing education as a top priority. He wants to expand full-day kindergarten to a county-wide level and reduce achievement gaps between students by making improvements to No Child Left Behind.

Ilyrong also believes in a support rail to Dulles Airport and pushing the importance of using public transportation. He wants to fight for the extension of Washington Metro to Dulles and Tysons Corner. He would like to minimize disruption of traffic flow during HOT lanes construction by using traffic calming devices and working with local and state police, but also ensure that trees are replanted after construction of HOT lanes to provide a sound barrier and protection for nearby neighborhoods.
