Identity (dj)

IDENTITY (born: 1982 Melissa Parker in Brunswick, Maine, United States), is a leading American hard dance DJ.

An established and popular underground DJ in the United States hard dance scene, Identity is the leading hard house dj in New England, as well as most of America. For a genre that was developed in the UK during the 1990s, Identity has educated and displayed the variety of it, and its sub-genres all across the country. Identity plays styles including hard house, hard trance, techno, drum and bass, hardcore, and hardstyle. She is known for her original and explosive mixing style and turntablism, as well as her dedication and drive to keep hard dance alive and kicking in her home country.

In 2000, Identity formed the New England Rave Union, which was created to maintain the underground movement and educate new comers to the history behind the American rave scene. Her goal was to team up with other underground promoters to throw quality, and most often, illegal raves. She, as well as other promoters involved, were willing to risk prosecution and jail time, in order to keep a family, that Identity called her own, alive.

With the creation of the New England Rave Union, Identity herself started to gain notice both in America, and internationally. She had released a series of mix tapes since her starting point in 1998, bouncing between the many genres, and incorporating new styles into her mixed sets. She gained radio play across the globe, InterViews, as well as international newspaper display. She played strictly for the music and the people and was often praised by her willingness to volunteer for events, as well as cause events to raise money for disasters or cancer research.

Identity had nearly gone broke offering her services for almost nothing to perform for events for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Breast Cancer Research, St. Jude and Hurricane Katrina. She was always dedicated to providing a quality show, for a good cause, while still interacting with her fans. She has also played at some of America's biggest dance festivals including WMC in Miami, DEMF in Detroit, WEMF in Canada, MEMF in Chicago, as well as all of the Shawnee Cave Amphitheater Underground Sound events in Illinois. She has also played in every major city on the East Coast, Midwest, Quebec Canada, New Brunswick, Sydney Australia, and Melbourne Australia.

To this day, Identity still manages to play, although her day to day job as a paramedic makes her availability slender. She is focusing more on original production and hopes to take her style a step further with her creations.
