Accent versus dialect

Accent refers to the sounds, the pronunciation of a language. A dialect is a version of a language that is special to a particular region or group. Many people having learned ESL (English as a second language) have been taught by non-native American speakers so when they come to the United States their English has traces of their original accent plus the accent of their teacher, therefore the accent is not American and may be difficult to comprehend . An Accent Coach teaches the general population and actors who wish to learn accents for film/theatre and television; British Received Pronunciation, Cockney, Irish, Russian, German, French, General and Regional American, Chinese and Mexican for example and Pronunciation spelling is an effective way to learn accents.
