HP ExpertONE
HP ExpertOne is an information technology (IT) professional certification and training program covering the products of Hewlett-Packard Company. The certifications validate that individuals have the knowledge and skills to assess, design, implement, operate, support and maintain a converged IT environment. The tests are administered by Prometric. HP customers, partners and employees, as well as members of academia, are eligible to take the tests.
The program supports five IT job roles and four skill levels. The five job roles are sales, architect (presales), integration, administration, and support. The skill levels are entry, foundational, intermediate and advanced.
The HP ExpertONE program has three primary components: training, certification, and community.
Training
Candidates for HP ExpertONE certification have the option to take HP certification training, which is available in the form of instructor-led courses, virtual classes and labs, and self-paced online courses. Training is recommended though not required for a candidate who is preparing to take a certification exam.
Certification training classes are taught by HP Certified Instructors through HP Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) located throughout the world.
Certification
Certification validates that a person has acquired the knowledge and mastered a specific set of skills in order to perform a job and/or work with specific HP products or solutions. A certification is earned by an individual by meeting all of the prerequisites and core requirements of a specific credential. Prerequisites are typically lower level credentials from HP or third party providers, and core requirements are typically web-based or proctored exams. In some cases, high level HP certifications also require a board review as a core requirement.
Certification Levels
There are four levels of certification within the HP ExpertONE program. The levels and the certifications within them are:
Entry level certifications
- HP Accredited Platform Specialist (HP APS) - This individual is required to provide basic hardware support for the purpose of restoring consumer and business-class hardware to factory operational levels.
- HP Accredited Presales Professional (HP APP) - Certifies that a candidate can analyze customer business requirements, and make recommendations for an HP solution that will solve business needs.
- HP Accredited Sales Professional (HP ASP) - Certifies that a candidate can effectively gather customer business requirements, recognize opportunities and make recommendations to solve business needs from the HP solutions portfolio.
Foundational level certifications
- HP Accredited Integration Specialist (HP AIS) – This is the base level of technical integration career certification from HP. The intermediate-level ASE and advanced-level Master ASE certifications are built upon the skills a candidate demonstrates when he/she acquires an AIS certification. This certification verifies that the candidate has the ability to design, implement and support high value solutions in a particular technology domain to solve business needs.
- HP Certified Systems Administrator (HP CSA) – A candidate should start here to get certified on HP operating systems. CSA certifies that the individual has the skills to perform hands-on installation, configuration, administration and support of HP solutions and/or HP operating systems in networked environments. HP certified administrators are able to operate and manage IT systems in such a way as to help their companies gain good return from their IT investments.
- HP Accredited Presales Consultant (HP APC) - Certifies that a candidate can gather and analyze customer business requirements, then plan and design an HP enterprise solution.
Intermediate level certifications
- HP Accredited Systems Engineer (HP ASE) - Certifies that a candidate has the proven ability to design, support and integrate an enterprise solution (potentially including HP and third-party platform, operating system, software, storage, network and option components) to solve business needs.
- HP Certified Systems Engineer (HP CSE) – HP’s flagship operating system certification, CSE certifies that a candidate has the skills to provide hands-on installation, performance optimization, management and support of HP solutions and/or operating systems in complex enterprise environments.
- HP Accredited Sales Consultant (HP ASC) – HP’s highest level sales certification, ASC certifies a candidate has the ability to gather customer business requirements and successfully position and sell HP enterprise products, solutions and services in an engagement with a customer.
Advanced level certification
- HP Master Accredited Systems Engineer (HP MASE) - Signifies that a candidate possesses a depth of skills to design, implement and support high value solutions in a particular technology domain and has enough technology breadth and business acumen to ensure he/she can successfully create or provide support for solutions within a larger technical and business context.

HP Flagship certification
The HP Master ASE – Converged Infrastructure Architect certification is the highest level of the HP ExpertONE certifications. This certification validates that the IT professional has the broad knowledge and skills necessary to develop a data center architecture based on HP Converged Infrastructure products and technologies. The ideal candidate possesses cross-domain product knowledge that spans servers, storage, networking, power and cooling, systems management and other data center elements. The candidate must understand how to deploy solution blocks such as ERP/CRM and messaging and collaboration based on the Converged Infrastructure core architecture. In addition, the candidate for this certification must be able to articulate the business value proposition of the Converged Infrastructure and the solutions that he/she develops.
The Master ASE – Converged Infrastructure Architect certification uses a board review in the knowledge validation process. The candidate must have a sponsor and submit an application to request a board review. HP assigns a business case scenario to the candidate, and he/she must design a Converged Infrastructure solution based on those business requirements. In addition to taking a proctored exam, the candidate must present his/her design to the board and justify the solution from both a technology and a return-on-investment position.
In addition to the board review, there is one proctored exam that covers data center fundamentals, networking, storage, elements of ITIL, and more. The candidate is able to build on certifications he/she has attained from Cisco, Microsoft and other third party agencies.
