Hookers, Escorts, and Masseurs Association or HEMA is a one-of-a-kind liaison organization that coordinates on several levels on behalf of [...] workers, prostitutes, strippers, and other adult industry employees.
History
In winter 2008 in Los Angeles, when his call girl roommate kept being beaten up, founder Ian Armstrong began giving martial arts courses to "Veronica". Soon enough her friends began asking for help as well. Subsequently he relocated to San Jose where along with his business partner Troy McCormick launched HemaNetwork.org in Spring 2009.
The website began simply, initially just coordinating existing resources such as STD testing, self-defense courses, and [...] crisis centers with [...] workers. As the months progressed, Hema began offering consulting services to prostitutes that had been assaulted or raped. This includes coordination law enforcement and therapy. During this same period the organization began to accept donations and perform fundraisers by following Greenpeace tactics or generating monthly pledges. The organization also began to database unsavory clients in a blacklist.
Mission
The organization has the aim or harm reduction and increased safety in the [...] industry, whether this be decriminalization, legalization, regulation, the workers leaving the profession or whatever other method possible to keep them safe.
