Hollywood Tans is a chain of tanning salons across the United States featured in the reality television show “Megan Wants a Millionaire.”

Background

Hollywood Tans is an indoor tanning salon company in the United States. The company used to have approximately 350 locations in 31 states across the United States. The number of open salons is now closer to 175. The company is based in Sewell, New Jersey and was founded in 1994 by Ralph Venuto, Sr. In 1998 Hollywood Tans began franchising their salons. In 2007, ACI Capitol, a New York-based private investment firm announced its partnership with the Venuto family and Hollywood Tanning Systems, Inc.

Products and Services

Hollywood Tans specializes in vertical sun tanning systems providing both UV and UV-free tanning. Stand-up booths offer a different indoor tanning option. There are four options for UV tanning: the HT High Pressure Booth, the HT 60, the HT54, and the HT42. Each booth differs in UVB percentage and the amount and type of bulb. The UV-free tanning booth is Hollywood Tan’s Instant Tan powered by Mystic. This booth uses custom cartridges containing premium bronzers, moisturizers and DHA to provide a tan equivalent to UV tanning.

Hollywood Tans has a specialized line of indoor tanning lotions that contains laboratory-tested skin care technology ranging from shower gels and moisturizers to tan amplifiers. These lotions developed by other companies, privately labeled, and are distributed only at Hollywood Tans.

Hollywood Tans used to differ from other salons because they manufactured their own equipment. The company used to build their own tanning beds and booths as well as the front counters and display shelves and they also private label all of their tanning lotions. Hollywood Tans no longer sets themselves apart by doing these things.

Tanetics

Tanetics is a process that involves an array of tanning options including a variety of booth and bulb intensities and the spray tan system along with exclusive lotions that help build and maintain a healthy tone. Every individual has their own custom plan by tanetics.

Megan Wants a Millionaire

In 2009, Hollywood Tans announced that it will play a role in the new VH1 reality show “Megan Wants a Millionaire.” VH1 asked Hollywood Tans to participate in the show by providing its star with one of the company’s 4-star “Hybrid” vertical tanning units. Along with the premiere of “Megan Wants a Millionaire,” Hollywood Tans launched a new product- Millionaire Mist, exclusive to Hollywood Tans.
