Global Gamers Center

Global Gamers Center (GGC) is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network that is primarily focused on gaming, including everything from old adventure games to new first-person shooters and MMORPGs. It was founded on the IDeaS that gaming should be fun and IRC should be as stress-free as possible.

History

Global Gamers Center began as a private testing ground for a few admins on other IRC networks who wanted a user-free environment in which to test new bits of code and different services. Finally, two of the individuals decided to turn it into a public network based on what they had developed with a third programmer.

The network had over 200 users within a month of going public, and it gained popularity among the players of Digital Paint: Paintball 2. By the time of the official launch party in November of 2006, the network had over 300 users.

On January 12, 2007, GGC became the home for UTChat, the default IRC network for the Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003 in-game chat clients, and one of the chat options in Unreal Tournament 2004.

Network Structure

The network itself is formed by several dedicated servers around the world that connect to a central hub in a star topology. The hub hosts The Primary services, while users connect only to the spokes.

Services

GGC offers the standard set of ChanServ, NickServ, MemoServ, and HelpServ IRC services through the services package known as X3, which run on the Nefarious IRCd. Modifications have been made to allow a PHP weather relay to communicate through ChanServ and to add GameServ, a custom service that allows users to challenge other clans for a match in a specific game.
