The Primacy of Peter

The Primacy of Peter: Analysing the Roman Pontiff and his authority over the Church was a compilation of a series of essays published by Father Scott in his hometown of Edinburgh. The essays asserted that the doctrine of Peter's Primacy was biblically accurate and therefore the Pope- as Peter's successor was indeed head of the Church and inheritor of Peter's place as Prince of the Apostles.

However, uniquely the Scott also suggested that even if Christ did not establish the powers of the Roman Pontiff then it was certainly done by Christian Covenant- that is "the collective agreement of the Christian faithful who, if not in the apostles, authority must have lay to govern the the doctrines and creeds of the Church." Scott argues that in the absence of an anointed leader Christ must have allowed his followers as a group to govern the Church as the Church- therefore it is the faithful who are the "foundation" upon which Christ will build his Church and therefore it lies within the faithful to delegate that power to an individual which they did, and continue to do faithfully upon the death of each Pope, by electing a new one.

Son

During his seminary life in Rome Scott engaged in [...] relations with a Scottish Tourist. This meant that he would have to leave the Seminary but for the intervention of his close friend and mentor Keith Patrick O'Brien, Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh. Scott was allowed to continue his training to become a priest- it was decided he was repentant for the act and showed his devotion to Christ by admitting his error.

However the women he had had [...] with became pregnant with his child and nine months later she gave birth to his son, who took the same name as his father. It was decided that Father Scott should take a break from acting as an Assistant Priest in order to decide if he wished to continue as a priest. At the end of 1992 Scott re-entered the priesthood. His son now lives with his mother in Dunfermline.
