FSU Pow Wow
Pow Wow is the signature homecoming event at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. It is held in the Leon County Civic Center before the Florida State Seminoles football teams' annual homecoming game, usually on a Friday night. Pow Wow features performances by the FSU cheerleaders, the FSU Golden Girls, FSU Flying High Circus, Seminole Dance Force, as well as various other student organizations.
The main function of Pow Wow is to function as a pep rally for the winter sport teams as well as the football team. The voice of the Seminoles, Gene Deckerhoff, hosts the event and includes appearances by head football coach Bobby Bowden and the Seminole football team, Leonard Hamilton and the men's basketball team, Sue Semrau and the women's basketball team and Bob Braman and the track and field teams.
Pow Wow culminates with a headlining comedian. Headliners in the past include (in order of most recent appearances); Sarah Silverman, Stephen Colbert, Larry the Cable Guy, Carlos Mencia, Cedric the Entertainer. Dave Attell, Dane Cook, Dave Chappelle and many more have made appearances in the past.
The 2008 homecoming theme was "Homecoming 2008: Unconquered Legacy" and comedian host was Jimmy Fallon.
The 2009 Pow Wow Comedian host was Jim Gaffigan on Friday October 30, 2009.
