Florida State University – Florence

Florida State University- Florence, or FSU Florence is one of Florida State University's four main international study centers which opened in 1966. FSU Florence is one of the few U.S. study abroad programs actually located in the heart of this remarkable city. Housed in the 15th century Alessandri Palace, the Center is just a short stroll from the marbled Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio, and the world renowned Uffizi Gallery. Surrounded by these century old historic sites, the Study Center classrooms, library, computer lab and student lounge are nevertheless equipped with modern comforts. Students and faculty also use it as a gathering place for both study and social activities. In addition, students have the chance to interact with faculty and staff during program coordinated group trips and while enjoying authentic Italian food at the many program organized dinners. Students can study in Florence through out the year with semesters ranging from six to fifteen weeks.

Study Abroad Program

Many students take part in FSU's First Year Abroad program. A perk of the programs is that students that are out of state students whom satisfy a number of requirements can receive in-state tuition upon their return to the main campus in Tallahassee. Students that choose to not participate in the First Year Abroad program are still eligible to study with FSU in Florence.

Housing

Residents of FSU’s Florence Study Center live in fully furnished apartments throughout the city. All of the apartments are located in the center of Florence and are within walking distance of the Study Center. Apartments include shared bedrooms, bathrooms, common room and kitchen area which are equipped with all necessary amenities (pots, dishes, laundry machine, linens, towels, etc.). There is also a weekly maid service.

Excursions

While the students are studying in Florence they have the opportunity to attend sociocultural excursions planned by the FSU Florence staff. The staff books the hotels, transportation, museum appointment, restaurants. The students' only responsibility is to arrive on time at the meeting location. The excursions can range from any number of the following locations:

  • Rome (weekend trip)
  • Venice (weekend trip)
  • Milan (weekend trip)
  • San Gimignano (day trip)
  • Volterra (day trip)
  • Siena (day trip)
  • San Miniato (day trip)
  • Pienza (day trip)
  • Ravenna (day trip)

Program Fee

Program Fees vary depending on program and length of stay. Fees include:
