Francis Wasser
Francis Wasser (b. 1988, Ireland) is a Dublin based artist currently studying Fine Art Painting at 'The National College of Art and Design'. The 19 year old has won a stream of awards in Music, Science, and Art. In 2005 Francis represented Ireland at the International science and engineering fair(isef) in Arizona, after winning best group at the young scientist competition at the r.d.s that year. There himself and his team scouped a first prize for their work on 'The Numerical Solutions of Hamiltons Equations'. The prize included Francis getting a minor planet named after him, a privilage only ever given to a handfull of Irish throughout history including that of Sir William Rowan Hamilton.
Francis boosts also the talent of being a highly gifted musician, playing classical guitar, bass guitar and keyboard and currently preparing to front a new up and coming instrumental band 'The Secondary Action'. As a young boy Francis won many prizes at the Feis Ceoil held in Dublin annually.
Art is however the priority of Francis thesedays. Last November he scooped a major international award for one of his short painting films '24/7'. The film was highly influenced by Francis's encounters with the members of the previously Dublin based 'remodernist' art movementDefastenism although on a recent interview on national Irish television Francis strongly denied this.
Recently whilst being interviewed AbOUT his teenage successes Francis stated that "the products of my creative process throughout the last few years will tarnish my potential in time. I highly regard the muse be that in relation to any form of art. I will not return to study Science, I have abandoned it in favour of something grander, the challenge of Postmodernism."
Recently after this comment Francis blocked Grafton Street in Dublin with a string of people in a style not uncommonoly associated with the artist Santiego Sierra. It is believed that Francis is to hold his first solo exhibition in Autumn 2007 in Dublin.
