Background
Initially, 50 Cent planned to release Black Magic as his fifth studio album. Black Magic saw 50 Cent pulling in a number of different genres and influences - most notably dance and rock music. However 50 Cent later decided scrapped the Black Magic album and considered a new direction for his fifth studio album; 50 Cent was in favor of a more traditional hip-hop album.
Recording
50 Cent's Black Magic album had a planned number of genres and influences - most notably dance and rock music. The reason behind the decision to scrap the Black Magic project was the recordings 50 Cent was producing while he arrived back in America from tour in 2010. 50 Cent claimed that the new recordings he produced did not fit the concept of Black Magic. "Since I've made it back to America, after recording in the UK and different territories while I was on the road, I started writing material that don't quite fit that concept, that album".
Despite disagreements with the label, 50 Cent released a track from his fifth studio album. Outlaw is produced by Cardiak and features 50 Cent rapping with an aggressive flow over a track laced with sharp drums and shimmering synth. “You wanna get shot, go ahead run up on my spot, my lawyers will have me out by 1 o'clock,” barks 50 at the start of the song’s second verse.
In an interview with MTV, 50 Cent enlisted Lloyd Banks, Lil' Kim, Busta Rhymes, Akon, Swizz Beatz and Eminem to work with him on the album.
Also during an interview with MTV, 50 Cent confirmed Kidd Kidd to appear on the title track for the album.
During an interview with BET, 50 Cent confirmed that he had finished recording the album.
Release
50 Cent announced that the release of his fifth studio album will be delayed until 2012 due to label disagreements. In a series of tweets, 50 Cent explained that him and his label Interscope Records aren’t on the same page on how to roll out the album and that he’s delaying its release until they see eye to eye.
50 Cent later announced a November 2011 release. 50 Cent currently plans to release his fifth studio album in conjunction with his headphone line Sleek by 50.
