Ernesto Felíx Vega Pujol

Ernesto Felíx Vega Pujol was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1957. He is an artist known for his painting, installations, and drawing. In 1978 he studied Art History (Post-graduate studies), in Madrid, Spain. And in 1991 was selected to participate in the Artist In The Marketplace Program, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York, U.S.A.

Individual Exhibitions

Among his most significant exhibitions are 1984's Experimento en temática religiosa (Experiments on Religious Themes), Galería Taller, D'Jerarez, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1995's Los Hijos de Pedro Pan (The Sons of Peter Pan) , Galería Latinoamericana, Casa de las Américas, Havana, Cuba. 1996's La Mesa de Saturno" (Saturn's table),at Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales, Havana, Cuba. And in 1997 he made The Picnic, at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, in New York''.

Collective Exhibitions

He has been part of many group exhibitions, among them 1977's Arte Joven '77, at the Royal Bank of Canada, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. In that year he also participated at the Primer Salón Universitario de Arte, Carnegie Library, San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1991 he was part of the Artist in the Marketplace. Eleventh Annual Exhibition. The Bronx Museum of Art, New York. In this year was also included in the A Festival of Latin American Art, Hudson Guild Gallery, New York. And in 1999 he was one of the selected artists to create Cuba, Landkarten Der Sehnsucht(Maps of Longing), Kunsthalle Wien, in Vienna, Austria.

Awards

During his life he has obtained many awards and recognitions, among them Honorable Mention for Arte Joven '78, Royal Bank of Canada, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. In 1990 he achieved the Breakthrough Award for Creativity, Academy for Educational Development, Washington, D.C. In 1991 and 1997 he obtained a Cintas Foundation Fellowship in New York. In 1993 he was awarded a Pollock Krasner Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, And in 1995 he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Cultural Affairs Department, City of Los Angeles, California.

His works can be found as part of important collections such as The Bronx Council of the Arts, Longwood, New York; in the Casa de las Américas, Havana, Cuba, and in the Cintas Foundation Fellows Collection, Florida International Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
