Eric Foley

Eric Foley (born 20 January 1990 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland) is an Irish footballer who currently plays for League of Ireland First Division club Shelbourne. Foley plays in central midfield.

Career

Foley who hails from Donabate in North County Dublin was capped for the Republic of Ireland at both under 16 and under 17 levels while at Dublin schoolboy club Home Farm. Foley performances earned him a move to Scottish club Celtic for whom he was part of their youth squad. After his release by Celtic in 2009, he returned to home to Ireland and signed for League of Ireland First Division side Sporting Fingal during the summer of 2009. He made his League of Ireland and Sporting Fingal debut on 4 July 2009 as a second-half substitute during a away 3-2 defeat to Finn Harps. Foley made 4 starts and 9 substitute appearances for Sporting Fingal in 2009 as they won the FAI Cup and secured promotion to the Premier Division via the play-offs.

Foley was released by Sporting Fingal at the end of the 2009 season but the midfielder would sign with Shelbourne for the Reds' 2010 First Division campaign. He made his Shelbourne debut on 28 February 2010 in a Leinster Senior Cup tie against Tolka Rovers] and he scored his first Shelbourne goal a week later on 5 March 2010 in Shels' first league game of the season, a 1-1 draw against Monaghan United at Tolka Park..
