Art Nouveau
In late 2010 El Rod released his online single “Picky”. The minimalistic Prince-inspired track was featured on popular sites like 22tracks.com and Ajanaku.com and gained a modest cult following as it was picked up nationally and internationally by various media outlets and blogs. DJ and director of the Dutch film “Rabat” Jim Taihuttu even praised the song on Twitter. El Rod's friend, producer/songwriter Joveek Murphy just signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell music and was interested in creating something totally new and they started recording songs together. His debut EP 'Art Nouveau' was the outcome on which Joveek produced 4 songs.
‘Art Nouveau’ was released independently in conjunction with jeans brand Wrangler and popular European website Ajanaku.com. El Rod had a releaseparty in the Jimmy Woo, the most popular nightclub in Amsterdam celebrating the release. As for Wrangler, they agreed to link their name to El Rod as an official sponsor and sponsored the releaseparty. Currently El Rod is slowly building his fanbase in his hometown Amsterdam and Europe through the internet. In the fall of 2011 he released a deluxe edition of the EP. The releaseparty was held at Hannekes Boom in Amsterdam.
Art Nouveau's Artwork
El Rod teamed up with the partner of Dutch fashion designer Antoine Peters, Karen van de Kraats to create the artwork for “Art Nouveau”. Every track featured on “Art Nouveau” has its own individual cover art. Specifically aimed at the progressive rate gadgets and multimedia is going, the covers are best visible on the iPads and iPhones. It doesn’t replace the actual CD booklet, the nostalgic feeling of unwrapping the CD and reading the credits. But it’s more so “nostalgia meets multimedia”. He also held an exclusive expo for the artwork December 9, 2011 in clothing store 'OntFront Menswear' in Amsterdam. The exhibition was sponsored by Absolut Vodka.
