EC-Council Certified Security Analyst

The Certified Security Analyst (E|CSA) is a professional certification provided by the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council.)

The ECSA Certification is a complementary certification to EC-Council's CEH certification by exploring the analytical phase of ethical hacking.

CEH and ECSA

A Certified Ethical Hacker has obtained a certification in how to look for the weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems and uses the same knowledge and tools as a hacker. A CSA learns to analyze the output frm the tools and methodologies presented in CEH. This certification is a stepping stone to the EC-Council's Licensed Penetration Tester(LPT) Certification

The certification is currently in Version 4 as of December 2008.

It should be noted that the ECSA and LPT training are combined into a single ECSA/LPT Certification Boot camp class. The duration of this boot camp is 5 days. Attendees will be prepared for the ECSA and LPT certifications at the end of this class. This certification is also pre-requisite to EC-Council’s Licensed Penetration Tester Program.

Certification coursework and Exam information

The coursework consists of 47 modules, although this is presented with information prearing testers for the L|PT examination. The ECSA exam is 50 questions and consits of 35 modules taken during a 2 hour testing format delivered through Prometric Online testing.

Recertification

EC-Council Continuing Education (ECE) points will serve to ensure that all EC-Council certified professionals maintain and further their knowledge. Professionals will need to meet the requirements of the ECE to avoid revocation of certification. Members holding the E|CSA designation will be required to re-certify under this program every three years for a minimum of 120 credits (20 credits per year). More information can be found here:1
