David Hazard
David Hazard (born December 1, 1955 in New York, United States) is an American writer and author coach.
Career
Since 1978, as a writing coach, David Hazard has helped to launch the careers of many authors. He has also consulted with publishers such as Baker Publishing, Harper & Row, Thomas Nelson, Random House, and Viking, while authoring more than 30 books, including fiction, non-fiction, self-help works, along with two works of children’s literature.
Writing career
Concurrently, Hazard wrote major cover features for national magazines, and his essays appeared in Christianity Today, and other periodicals. His monthly column, “Classic Christianity”, appeared in Charisma magazine. Hazard’s first adult non-fiction book, Blood Brothers (Chosen Books/ Baker Publishing, 1984), records the true-life story of Fr. Elias Chacour, a Palestinian peacemaker who has worked to bring dialogue between Palestinian and Jewish Israelis since the 1960s. Chacour is now Archbishop of the Melkite Church, and is the founder of Mar Elias University in Ibillin in northern Israel. Blood Brothers is now published in 37 languages. Due in part to the international exposure the book has provided, Chacour has been nominated three times for a Nobel Peace Prize. Hazard's writing influences include: Oliver Sacks, Orhan Pamuk, John Irving, Kiran Desai, Seamus Heaney, Mary Oliver, and David Whyte (poet)
Coaching career
In 2007, Hazard founded ASCENT, an international coaching program for authors. His clients include men and women from the fields of broadcast, international human rights advocacy, entertainment, business, medicine and psychology, alternative health, government, internet law, sports, education. His coaching method involves the whole person, using mindfulness meditation practices and traditional writing instruction in fiction and non-fiction genres. Hazard offers free coaching seminars to aspiring authors in the Washington, DC Metro area
Education
Hazard holds a B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations, with a minor in Literature, from Syracuse University (’77), and was awarded Summa Cum Laude.
