Chris Maxwell (writer)
Chris Maxwell served as a pastor in Orlando , Florida for 19 years. Since leaving Evangel Assembly of God, Chris now serves as Campus Pastor and Director of Spiritual Life at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs , GA. Prior to his service at Evangel, Chris served as a youth pastor for five years.
In addition to pastoring, Chris Maxwell is an author, motivational speaker, teacher, and church consultant. His book Beggars Can Be Chosen: An Inspirational Journey Through the Invitations of Jesus provides a look into the ways Jesus welcomed people so many of us ignore. His book Changing My Mind: A Journey of Disability and Joy informs readers AbOUT the near-death experience Chris had when suffering from encephalitis in March of 1996, and the Long term effect of now living with brain damage and epilepsy. Changing My Mind also includes brief stories of other people as they battle disappointments, disabilities, and death. The book gives hope to readers no matter what type of storms they are enduring.
Chris Maxwell also writes articles, curriculum, reviews and devotionals for a variety of publications, including God’s Word for Today, Charisma, Today's Pentecostal Evangel, IssacharFile, Enrichment, Experience, LIVE, Christian Retailing, Ministries Today, The Orlando Sentinel, The Franklin County Citizen, Faith Café, and many others. In addition, Chris teaches and speaks at colleges, hospitals, ministries and writers’ conferences, serves on leadership teams of various organizations, and coached basketball for many years. "A Grandmother's Touch," by Traci Mullins (Vine Books, 2001), includes Chris' story about his grandmother "MamaBee." Chris also teaches Spiritual Formation, while writing, editing, and ghostwriting for several publishing companies.
Chris was born and raised in Georgia and attended Emmanuel College , so in many ways he has gone back home. His wife Debbie teaches fifth grade at Lavonia Elementary School . Their sons Aaron and Graham attend Emmanuel. Their oldest son, Taylor, and their daughter-in-law Brittany, serve on staff at the Orlando YWAM base.
