History
Cape Harmony was founded in the spring of 2006 by Melissa Paul and Alyssa Norton. Auditions were held at Boston University on April 29, 2006. The first season and collaboration with Hyannis Sound established Cape Harmony as Cape Cod's premier all-female a cappella group. most notably with their Saturday concert tour which visited halls and churches from Buzzard's Bay to Eastham. The group finished with a concert in August 2006 which was recorded and became their first live album.
In the group's second season a week-to-week concert series was established West Yarmouth, Mashpee, and Hyannis. The Friday Concert Tour brought the group each week to a new location from Buzzard's Bay to Chatham. The group's final concert of 2007 was be released as their second live album at the beginning of the 2008 season.
Cape Harmony continues its tradition of a cappella every summer!
Recordings
Cape Harmony records and produces their final performance of the summer: The Whole Shebang. Each year's Shebang is available the following summer.
Auditions
Every year the lineup of ten young women has a turnover of a few members. The group hosts Springtime auditions in Boston and new ladies are chosen from a pool of college students from around the world. They are judged for both their personality/character and musicality/performance. Most candidates have had experience with one of thousands of college or university a cappella groups throughout the country (see CASA for a directory). These new members are put through a rigorous orientation of long rehearsals as they are mentored by returning members and soon finds themselves with a robust local and national following and a jam-packed summer schedule.
