BRWN BFLO
BRWN BFLO (Brown Buffalo) are a Chicano hip hop foursome from The San Francisco Bay Area, California. The group consists of MCs Big Dan (Daniel Mora), Giant (Luke Soriano), Somos One (Julio Magana) and Producer Jacinto (Jacinto Mingura).
Origin
BRWN BFLO originally formed as a group in 2004 and currently reside in Oakland, CA. The group took their name from the 1972 autobiography by Oscar Zeta Acosta, "Brown Buffalo" â a tale of an alienated Mexican-American lawyer in Oakland, CA.
Each of the group's members hail from different parts of California; Big Dan from Oakland, CA, Giant from Salinas, CA, Somos One from San Diego, CA and Jacinto has moved all over California throughout his entire life. The band's three MCs, Giant, Big Dan and Somos One are all graduates of UC Berkeley.
BRWN BFLO have carved a niche for themselves in the Bay Area Music Scene via their inventive, Latin-tinged take on hip-hop through politically-charged, positive and original lyrical content and musical style. Calling themselves "edu-tainers" and block educators, they try to stay close to their community roots and preach the gospel of violence prevention, cultural pride and La Raza resistance.
Career
The group released its self-titled debut album on May 5, 2009 boasting 17 tracks including "Wheels Keep Spinning" featuring Zion I and Bambu. The album comes with a bonus dvd that includes tour footage and the group's debut music video, "The Re-Appearance". Prior to their debut album they released a mixtape titled "Batos, Baqueros & Busboys" hosted by Zumbi of Zion I. They are affiliated with Jah Records, InGrooves and City Hall Records.
They currently have two music videos, "The ReAppearance" and "What's Good" and have they themselves been featured on Latination, a nationally syndicated, half-hour program that is broadcast to over 90 markets across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Performance
BRWN BFLO have embarked on two tours. The first was called "The Beat Goes On Tour" and the second was called "The Taco Truck Tour". The group consistently brings their music to venues across California and beyond and have performed alongside Michael Franti, Goapele, Ise Lyfe, Front Line, Blue Scholars, and Zion I among others.
