ASGUI

Associação Sportivo Guineenses, abbreviation: ASGUI is a football club that plays in the Sal Island League in Cape Verde and currently plays in the Sal Premier Division. It is based in Santa Maria, Cape Verde in the south of the island of Sal. The club plays at Estádio Municipal northwest of the center and also at Estádio Marcelo Leitão north in Espargos. The level is a beginner club.

History

ASGUI are one of the seven newest clubs in the Sal Island League. In mid-2014, along with the other five the club became registered and played their first match in the regional Opening Tournament later in the year and later the regional Second Division in 2015. ASGUI finished second place behind Florença for the 2015 season in the spring and qualified to the Premier Division for the first time as its eighth participant. ASGUI won their first Premier Division match over Verdun 4-3 on February 6. Its successes were moderate, they made their second win over Juventude 1-5 on February 28 and became their highest scoring match of the club, ASGUI made their final win over Florença 1-3 at the 6th round. ASGUI's positions were slumping as their remaining matches ended in losses, their worst was a 1-6 loss to Palmeira on March 27. ASGUI finished last with 9 points and had a total of 11 losses, the club also conceded 42 goals and returned to the Second Division for the following season. ASGUI played for only a season in that division, ASGUI did good and had only 4 wins and draws, their highest result of the season was a 3-2 win over Chã de Matias on April 28. ASGUI finished first in the Second Division with 16 points, three more than Pretória, whose last match of the season that ASGUI played with, the newcomer. ASGUI got their only Second Division title and will participate for the second time in the island's Premier Division in the following season.

Stadium

The club plays at both at Santa Maria's municipal stadium and at Estádio Marcelo Leitão, a multi-use stadium in Espargos, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000. The stadium has seat rows in the east side and is east-southeast of the city center and Monte Curral. The stadium is home to The Two best football clubs on the island, the other being Académica do Sal, other clubs based in Espargos includes Juventude which is based in Morro Curral and the stadium is being located inside the neighborhood. Other clubs based in Espargos but a neighborhood includes the newly established clubs of GDRC Pretória and Chã de Matias. Clubs playing the stadium but based on other parts of the island include Santa Maria, Florença de Santa Maria, SC Verdun Pedra de Lume and Palmeira de Santa Maria.

ASGUI has 32 matches played at the regional championships, and has a total of 11 wins, 5 draws and 14 losses (9 wins, 4 draws and a loss in the Second Division) and has scored a total of 55 goals, it equals to 55 goals that ASGUI conceded, ASGUI scored more in the Second Division with 38 goals scored and the club conceded fewer in the Second Division with only 13. ASGUI has a total of 44 points, of which 35 were in the Second Division.
