Armen Firman (band)
Armen Firman is an indie Australian rock group, who formed in 2005. Hailing from the country's south, the Melbourne band has developed a strong Underground following as a result of their energetic live shows.
Featuring a sound based on melodic chordal riffs and lead guitar parts, their sound has been likened to Kashmir or early Radiohead, whom the band name as an influence.
The band is comprised of vocalist Tom Whitty and his brother Sam on guitar, Matt Millar on drums, James Saunders on bass and Rob Rambaldi on keyboards.
History
The band met at school in Wangaratta, Australia but base themselves in Melbourne. Originally performing, under the name The Flight, the name change to Armen Firman occurred in 2005 when they also added their keyboardist.
Releases
In early 2005 the band had their track ‘It's Too Late’ played on national Australian radio station, Triple J.
In 2006 the band recorded a series of demos, one of which, 'Come On', received some national airplay, the band never officially released the song.
In late 2006, Armen Firman recorded an early version of their track 'Porch Dweller' which saw bassist James Saunders sing lead vocals for the first time. Porch Dweller received airplay on several radio stations and reached the top of the Indie charts in national radio broadcaster Triple J's Unearthed initiative. It has since been played on more than one occasion on Triple J's Home and Hosed program.
