Arjun BLT
Arjun BLT is an indian Armoured vehicle-launched bridge (AVLB). It have been developed by Research and Development Establishment,Pune, part of the DeFence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO).
Hull
Arjun Brige Layer Tank (BLT)is based on Arjun tank’s chassis, its gun and turret have been replaced with the bridge launcher.
Bridge
It uses a "sliding type" bridge with a Military Load Class (MLC) 70 load , which does not raise the bridge high up into the air, and hence make it invisible from far . The bridge is cantilevered over across rivers to cover a distance of 24 m with a width of 4 m. The Arjun BLT carries two halves of a bridge. At a gap, the launcher slides the two parts and docks them to each other in such a way that the far end of the second half touches the other bank to help an armoured column cross rivers or trenches.. The BLT-Arjun then crosses the bridge, turns around, retrieves the bridge after undocking its two halves, folds it to transportation mode within 10 minutes.
