American Association for Long Term Care Insurance

American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI), based in Westlake Village, California, is the national trade organization for the Long term care insurance industry in the United States.

Company Background

The American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance was co-founded by Jesse Slome and Barry Fisher in January 1998. At the time, Slome was editor and publisher of Long Term Care Insurance Sales Strategies magazine and president of a marketing consulting firm that served leading insurance companies including Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Transamerica Corporation and the State of California's Long Term Care Insurance Partnership program. Fisher was president of a regional insurance brokerage agency based in West Hills, CA. Prior to founding the first national not-for-profit trade association exclusively focused on educating consumers regarding long term care risks, Slome held senior positions with leading insurance companies including Transamerica Corporation and Aetna.

Since 2006, AALTCI conducts annual research examining the long term care insurance industry's annual buyer and claimant data which is published in the organization's Long-Term Care Insurance Sourcebook, a compendium of proprietary research along with summarized highlights of nationally recognized studies.

Serving the LTC insurance informational needs of consumers as well as organizations, AALTCI publishes and makes available approximately a dozen consumer guides including the three highly popular guides: A Woman's Guide To Long Term Care Insurance - Guide To Tax Deductible Long Term Care Insurance - Ways To Reduce The Cost of Long Term Care Insurance

In 2001 the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance established the first Long-Term Care Awareness Week a national consumer awareness campaign which has been expanded into a full month each November. The Association hosts the national conference for insurance and financial professionals who market LTC insurance. The 10th National Long-Term Care Insurance Summit will take place November 10–12, 2012.

In 2002, AALTCI established the national campaign, Long Term Care Insurance is Good for America adopted as the national awareness campaign by Association members and featured as part of national print and broadcast advertisements. The Association has created and published an ongoing series of consumer educational guides in association with Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

In 2009 AALTCI announced the formation of a new affiliate, the American Association for Critical Illness Insurance a trade organization focused on critical illness insurance a form of insurance protection that pays a lump sum tax free cash benefit upon diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, or stroke. In 2010, the association announced the formation of a third affiliate, the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance a trade organization focused on Medigap insurance a form of insurance protection that supplements coverage provided by Medicare.

Jesse Slome serves as the executive director for all three organizations and is a frequent speaker to consumer groups and industry professional conferences.

Membership

The American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance is an organization for individuals who are active in the long term care insurance industry. Its membership represents all segments of the health insurance business but the nucleus of the organization has always been agents.

Meetings

AALTCI sponsors the largest industry conference focused on selling and marketing long term care insurance. The 10th National LTCi Producers Summit will take place at the Tropicana Las Vegas. November 10–12, 2012
