Alex Mizenko

Alexander "Alex" J. Mizenko (b. 1991-09-10) is a young scientist and environmental activist. He was the 2007 winner of the SustainUS Citizen Science Writing Competition and by that means, a youth delegate to the 15th Annual United Nations Conference on Sustainable Resources.

Biography

Mizenko was born in Rahway, New Jersey in 1991 but has lived in the small town of Beachwood, New Jersey for his entire life. He attended Beachwood Elemnetary School and then Toms River Intermediate School West (later changed to North) and graduated in 2005. He now attends Toms River High School South, where he participates in an research program studying climate change.

Mizenko entered the Citizen Science Writing Competition at the urging of his science teacher in January 2007. Two months later, his paper, titled "New York City Under Siege?", which spells out The Effects that climate change will have on the home of the United Nations, was selected the winner in the High School Category. His paper was peer reviewed and was published on May 2, 2007, the day he spoke at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Resources. Mizenko made a powerpoint presentation based on his paper at one of the many side events going on at the United Nations.
