Aleksandar Andrija Pejović

Aleksandar Andrija Pejović (Montenegrin Cyrillic: Александар Андрија Пејовић, ) (born on 26 June 1974 in Kotor, Montenegro) is a Montenegrin diplomat.

He has been serving as State Secretary – Chief Negotiator for negotiations over Montenegro’s accession to the European Union (since December 2011) and as National coordinator for pre-accession funds for EU assistance to Montenegro (since December 2012).

Education

Aleksandar Andrija Pejović completed master studies in international relations – European and South East studies at the Faculty of State Administration and Political Sciences at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Before that he had completed primary and secondary school in Herceg Novi and Faculty of English Language and Literature in Novi Sad.

Ambassador to EU

In March 2010 Aleksandar Andrija Pejović was appointed as Ambassador – Chief of the Mission of Montenegro to EU and in October 2010 as permanent representative – Ambassador of Montenegro to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague. In the course of his term in office in Brussels he participated in all the most important developments related to the European way of Montenegro, from handover of EC Questionnaire over obtainment of candidate status to the most recent decision about initiation of negotiations. His work has been reflected in relations, communication and encounters Montenegro has had with the European Commission, European Parliament and Council of EU as well as with representative offices of Member States, states of the region and other members of corps diplomatique in Brussels.

Before his appointment as Ambassador to EU, Aleksandar Andrija Pejović served for three years as Director of Directorate for European Union in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro. During this post he worked extensively with cooperation between Montenegro and EU, particularly with political relations and dialog with EU and common foreign and security policy of EU. In this capacity, Aleksandar Andrija Pejović participated in all important meetings and gatherings between Montenegro and European officials. He has also participated in different working bodies of the Government of Montenegro in the process of European integration and has coordinated work in part of political criteria and chapter 31 – foreign, security and defence policy.

Career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

Aleksandar Andrija Pejović has been employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2000. He served in several sectors of the Ministry – multilateral (UN and regional cooperation), bilateral (neighbouring countries and Western Europe) and EU. He also was employed in the Office for Cooperation between Montenegro and Slovenia in Ljubljana and in Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro in Skopje, where he was national representative in the Regional Centre for Migration, Asylum and Refugees. He worked as national coordinator for Montenegrin presiding over Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, coordinator for presiding over the Regional Initiative for migration, asylum and refugees and Deputy National Coordinator for fight against human trafficking.

Teaching English language

Before he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he had worked as professor in the High School in Herceg Novi for three and a half years.

Personal Details

Aleksandar Andrija Pejović speaks several languages, including English, Italian, French, Slovenian and Macedonian.

Writing and Sculpting

In his spare time he writes and sculpts. He has published several papers on international relations and geopolitics. Aleksandar Andrija Pejović is also the author the novel Amabor.
