Abiodun Ogunleye

Prince Abiodun Ogunleye (born 1 November 1940) is a Nigerian politician and chartered accountant. He briefly served as Deputy Governor of Lagos State in May 2007, following the impeachment of his predecessor Femi Pedro. He was the shortest‑serving deputy governor in Nigeria.

Early life

Born into a royal family in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Ogunleye trained as an accountant and became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Political involvement

As a party officer at the grassroots, he served in various capacities during Nigeria's Second Republic.

Following the impeachment of the then Deputy Governor on 10 May 2007, Ogunleye was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Lagos State on 15 May 2007 with just two weeks remaining in the administration's tenure.

Later life and roles

Though his tenure as Deputy Governor lasted only 17 days (ending 29 May 2007), Ogunleye continued to hold influence as an elder statesman and community leader.

On 1 November 2025, Ogunleye's 85th birthday was publicly celebrated, drawing tributes from a wide range of political leaders and stakeholders who praised his lifelong public service, integrity, and leadership.

Personal life and legacy

Ogunleye is regarded as a committed family man, with children who have pursued successful careers. His contributions to both public service and community development have earned him respect across Lagos, particularly in his hometown of Ikorodu.
