9-Square
9-Square is a variation of the common playground game 4-square. In 9-square, a set of 3x3 squares is used, and the king is located in the middle. Play rotates clockwise, with the final stop being in the king square.
Rules of Play
Traditional 9-square follows the same rules as 4-Square, with a few modifications. Players are allowed to pass the ball wherever they want. Players may attempt to pass over squares. The inside lines are "in," the outside lines are "out." The king, since they are playing in the center, may have the ball come at them from any angle. If the ball bounces in a players square, they must touch it to stay in play.
In 9-square, players rotate through quickly, so it is ideal for large groups of people to play.
Origination
9-Square originated at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp in Amery, Wisconsin.
