West Hull Community Radio (known on air as "WHCR") is a local community radio station serving the area of West Hull, England.
AbOUT
The station is focused on providing a broader mix of music than commercial stations in the area, with a large focus on local based speech content. This can consist of outside broadcasts from local businesses, events and organisations as well as InterViews with local groups or people in whom the listeners May Be interested. A variety of news, entertainment and factual featured taken from IRN are also played out. The station works on an average 60% music - 40% speech principle with each show having slightly different amounts of these.
In December 2009, the station won Radio Station Of The Year in Yorkshire for 2009 with a potential audience of under 300,000 adults at the Sony radio acadamy awards.
