DBMM (De Bellis Magistrorum Militum, Latin for "Of the Wars of the Masters of Soldiers") is an miniatures wargame written by Phil Barker, covering the ancient and medieval periods. It is the most recent of the "DBx" games that also include DBM, DBA, DBR, and Hordes of the Things. Covering the same periods at a similar level of detail as DBM, it is intended as the successor to that game.
Development
DBMM is based upon the popular DBM ancient wargaming rules, and shares many characteristics of that set. However there are significant changes that make it as different from DBM as are other sets in the same family.
Some of the more significant differences include:
*Ground scale
*PIP allocation for regular commands
*Brilliant and Inert generals
*Stratagems
*Terrain setting
*Deployment order
*PIP expenditure
*Move distances
*Combat results
*Morale
*Victory and defeat scoring
Successive versions of the rules were freely available on the internet for playtesting and criticism over a period in excess of 3 years. The DBMM Yahoo e-mail list had over 800 members by the time of publication, and over 1300 by the end of 2007.
