BASS, STEPHEN Chief Boatswain's Mate, U.S. Navy Sea-Air-Land Team 1 (SEAL-1), British Special Boat Service (Attached) Date of Action: November 25 & 26, 2001
For extraordinary heroism while serving with the British Special Boat Service during combat operations in Northern Afghanistan on 25 and 26 November 2001. Chief Petty Officer Bass deployed to the area as a member of a Joint American and British Special Forces Rescue Team to locate and recover two missing American citizens, one presumed to be seriously injured or dead, after hard-line Al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners at the Quala-I-Jangi fortress in Mazari Sharif over powered them and gained access to large quantities of arms and ammunition stored at the fortress. Once inside, Chief Petty Officer Bass was engaged continuously by direct small arms fire, indirect mortar fire and rocket propelled grenade fire. He was forced to walk through an active anti-personnel minefield in order to gain entry to the fortress. After establishing the possible location of both American citizens, under heavy fire and without concern for his own personal safety, he made two attempts to rescue the uninjured citizen by crawling toward the fortress interior to reach him. Forced to withdraw due to large volumes of fire falling on his position, he was undeterred. After reporting his efforts to the remaining members of the rescue team, they left and attempted to locate the missing citizen on the outside of the fortress.
As darkness began to fall, no attempt was going to be made to locate the other injured American citizen. Chief Petty Officer Bass then took matters into his own hands. Without regard for his own personal safety, he moved forward another 300-400 meters into the heart of the fortress by himself under constant enemy fire in an attempt to locate the injured citizen. Running low on ammunition, he utilized weapons from deceased Afghans to continue his rescue attempt. Upon verifying the condition and location of the American citizen, he withdrew from the fortress. By his outstanding display of decisive leadership, unlimited courage in the face of enemy fire, and utmost devotion to duty, Chief Petty Officer Bass reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Monster List
- Hunter Troll: The type of troll that Knut used to track Stella and Bloom. With the help of the Red Fountain Specialists, they defeated it and the Specialists took it to Red Fountain. Later on, the Red Fountain Specialists had to escort the Hunter Troll to Magix to give to a mind sorcerer. When the Hunter Troll escaped, the Trix beat the Winx Club and the Red Fountain Specialists to it and sent the troll to limbo. Some Hunter Trolls live in Wildland.
- Griffin: The Griffin was mentioned as one of the monsters that Red Fountain has in its stables. Some Griffins live in the Barrier Mountains.
- Bingledip Beast: Another monster mentioned that was in the stables at Red Fountain.
- Cretan Minotaur: A four-armed minotaur that was used by the Trix to attack the Winx Club, who had their powers diluted. The minotaur was used to distract the Winx girls while the Trix were looking for the real location of the DragonFire. It was defeated.
- Island Turtle: A resident of the swamp where the Junior League lives. When the Wendigo Willow was on its back, it went berserk until the Willow was vanquished.
- Wendigo Willow: A tree that emits sleeping gas when it was planted on the back of an Island Turtle. The Winx Club were able to vanquish it.
- Craven: A crow/raven monster that the Trix use for aerial reconnaissance missions.
- Nightmare Gargoyle: The Nightmare Gargoyle is a type of gargoyle that gets more powerful whenever it feeds off nightmares. When it gets powerful, its body shape changes and grows larger. The Nightmare Gargoyle was vanquished by Professor Faragonda (who dealt with one back when she was the age of the Winx Club girls).
- Dragons: One of the many creatures living in the magic universe. Some of them are in Red Fountain's stables. The Great Dragon is the dragon responsible for creating the magical universe and its power was on Sparks where it rested and some of the power is within Bloom. Some Dragons live in Wildland.
- Army of Decay: A bunch of monsters made of rot and decay that can be summoned by whoever evil has the DragonFire (namely the Trix). If the person that has control over the Army of Decay is defeated, the army disappears.
- Snow Monster: A big, tusked, furry monster with ice spikes on its back that resided on the frozen Sparks. It took the combined powers of Flora, Tecna, Musa, and Stella to vanquish it.
- Ice Crabs: Crabs that are made of ice and can kill a fairy with their touch.
- Leodragerus: A dragon-like lion creature said to be extinct. Lord Darkar created it from Kerbog to attack Red Fountain. When defeated, it reverted back to Kerbog.
- The Angel of Doom: A legendary creature that is said to be a myth. He isolates the strongest of the groups, and drains their powers. He disguises himself as a hero or paladin, just to gain everyone's trust. When the three planets align, he shows his true form and identity, and kills everyone. Tecna believed that Professor Avalon (the fake one who worked for Lord Darkar) was the Angel of Doom, but she was proven wrong in the end.
- Winged Liger: An endangered monster that was only mentioned by one of the Wrong Righters members as one of their goals to save.
- Octaceratops: Another creature said to be extinct, with three horns on its head like a triceratops and a huge axe in its hand. Lord Darkar also created it from Kerbog to make sure that no one could stop him and Bloom (who was under Darkar's spell) from entering Realix. While the powers of Flora, Tecna, Musa, Stella, and Layla had no affect on it, it was defeated by the combined powers of Principal Feragonda, Principal Griffin, and Professor Codatorta (after which Principal Feragonda & Principal Griffin destroyed Kerbog with a single blast after it reverted back to Kerbog).
- Ice Spirits: Frozen spirits that live in the Barrier Mountains.
Devastator is the name of a rocket launcher in Ratchet & Clank, a videogame created by Insomniac games. It carries 20 shots, and its ammunition cases resemble rockets.
Alphapets was a series of children's books by Ruth Lerner Perle, Deborah Colvin Borgo, Judy Blankenship and Richard Max Kolding. They were similar to the Sweet Pickles books and each letter of the alphabet was represented in a separate book with an animal for each letter of the alphabet. Each story was filled with words and objects that begin with the letter of the alphabet featured in that book. A special word page at the end of each book provided extra practice in identifying letters and words. They were published in the early 1990s. In the future a similar series called the Eurps will come out, featuring not animals, but anthropomorphic letters of the alphabet.
