Ingrid N. Allen (born February 14, 1976), is an American Poet/Author and a noted free-lance writer for many publications. Ingrid first gained notoriety in 2002 with her poem I'm Still a Slave which gained her a distinguished African American Woman Poet destination and in 2007 with her award-winning poem Time Pieces of Life.
Since then Ingrid has made a name for herself within the celebrity community as a ghostwriter (writing biographies, cookbooks, novels, etc.) and has published her first forefront fiction novel entitled The Portrait of a Black Mafia Princess which has been rumored to be loosely based on one of the leading ladies of the Black Mafia Family.
Early Life
Ingrid's childhood was in some faucets considered rough; as like many she struggled with a family that were highly affected by drugs and alcohol. After becoming a mother at the tender age of sixteen, Ingrid, concerned about the path in which she would take to prevent her daughter’s life being unfavorable like hers, went on to pursue a career in Broadcasting/Communications with the influence of her aunt "Brenda Ware-Abrams" who had been in gospel radio for a number of years. (Who has now been inducted in the Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame after more than 25 years of public radio)
However, after following her aunt’s gospel trail, she decided to move into hip-hop and urban R & B radio, beginning in promotions and working her way up to copy-writing; which later sparked her interest in writing columns for hip-hop entertainment.
The Poetic Prophesy
In between her struggle to create a name for herself within the tough Broadcasting market, free-lance writing for small publications and working a “job” to make ends meet, Ingrid continued to explore her passion for poetic arts. Which gained her notable creditability and recognition as a distinguished African American Woman in Poetry with her poem entitled “I’m Still a Slave”. Then in 2007 she scored with another poem which won her the Editor’s Choice Award entitled “Time Pieces of Life”; which she commented within the poem that she counts every piece as a stepping stone.
Write On
Ingrid’s desire to professionally write fused when she met a noted celebrity that mentioned that they wanted to write a book but just didn’t have the time or the “know-how” to get it started. So, she took this opportunity to flex her writing abilities as a ghostwriter on this project and needless to say helped this celeb to reach “best-seller” status. From that project on word of mouth traveled throughout the under-ground celebrity community and created influence that enabled her to pen more projects. Of course the need to be discreet in this area was critical, so in that regard, she did not get public recognition for her work, but yet she operated it as a ghostwriting consulting business (Ingrid Wrote It).
The Big Step into the Forefront
In September of 2010, the well-respected ghostwriter decided to step out into the forefront with her first novel entitled "The Portrait of a Black Mafia Princess". Which is rumored to be a sub-stated portrayal of Demetrius Flenory’s leading lady in the publically scrutinized drug organization The Black Mafia Family. It still has not been confirmed that this rumor is true. However, depicting the name, The Portrait of a Black Mafia Princess, and the vivid content, from what reported reader’s have said, this story vaguely emulates from a woman’s standpoint an insider’s view behind the scenes of what may have taken place during some of the media reported events about this organized crime union.
There are no reports that Ingrid is in any way associated with this organization nor has she commented publically on any of the rumors regarding the fiction novel.
AWARDS & DESTINATIONS
*ILP-2007 Editor’s Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry(Time Pieces of Life 2007)
*Black History Month Woman of Destinction Destination (I'm Still a Slave, 2002)
