General
The National Christian Choir (NCC), directed by C. Harry Causey, is a 501(c)(3) religious organization based out of the greater
Washington, DC, area. More than 150 volunteer members from Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia gather to rehearse on Monday nights throughout the school year to present between from 10 to 12 concerts annually.
How it all got started
Harry Causey wanted to create a National Christian Choir for over 12 years before 1983, when Ron Doucette contacted Causey and asked him conduct a concert at Constitution hall in the following year. Causey agreed but asked that the choir be named The National Christian Choir. The first concert of the NCC was on January 28th, 1984.
Early years
During the first years, the NCC sang in many prestigious places such as Constitution Hall, the Washington Convention Center, and the Washington National Cathedral. The NCC also sang with major recording artists including Steve Green, Sandi Patti, and Michael W. Smith. In 1986, just two years after its start, the NCC was invited to sing in Manger Square in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve.
Tours
The NCC tries to take one tour a year to somewhere in the United States. Besides the Washington Area, the NCC has visited Florida (5 times), California (2 times), Colorado, Washington, Texas, Illinois, and Indiana. All the volunteer choir members of The National Christian Choir pay their own way on all of our tours. This includes transportation (often by air), bus transportation after arrival, and food. The concert hosts often help by offering a church dinner.
Other Ventures
Music for Overseas Military (MOM)
The NCC sponsors Music for Overseas Military (MOM), a ministry to send CDs of recordings of their music to worldwide military personal during the Christmas Season. It costs $7 for one CD to be sent overseas. The NCC asks that all donations made to this ministry be labeled “MOM”.
Psalm 95: Radio Ministry
Psalm 95 is a 55-minute radio ministry consisting of recordings of the NCC, passages from the Bible, and inspirational commentary. Psalm 95 started on one radio station out of Baltimore, Maryland, in 2002 and grew to nearly 400 stations in all of North America and internationally.

The 'Lake of Stars' is the lyrical and poetic nickname given to Lake Malawi. It has also been sometimes referred to as the "Lake of a Thousand Shining Stars".
The Lake has always been seen in Malawi has having magical or spiritual properties. The Lake has also been known as Lake Nyasa during the colonial period where Malawi was part of the Empire of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. It is known as Lake Niassa in Portuguese in neighboring Mozambique. It is also presently known as by Malawians. The word for lake in chichewa is "nyanja". As the "Lake of Stars", the lake is romanticised as a lake of magical properties.
Romanticism of the Lake
Livingstone Origins
In historical context, it is believed that when David Livingston first saw the lake he coined the term "Lake of Stars" because the reflection of the sun at sunset, moon at night and stars in the lake could be seen in the lake.
Fisherman Origins
The name is also used as a metaphor to describe the lights from the lanterns of the fisherman in Malawi on their boats, which resemble, from a distance, stars in the sky
Images of the Lake in Literature
The Lake has been the subject of a lot of Malawian literature. In literature, the name is said to have originated because of the sun glittering off the lake during sunset.
It is also known as the Lake of Storms, for the unpredictable and extremely violent gales that sweep through the area.
Malawian Religion
Malawian traditional religions see a spiritual connection with the lake that explains the existence of mankind.
Sculpture
Malawians like Yao artists Joshua Manzi use the lake as inspiration for their artwork. figures.
Lake of Stars Music Festival
An annual Music festival in Malawi on the lake, called the "Lake of Stars" Music Festival, attracts Malawians and tourists from around the world each year. The festival has helped put Malawian musicians on the international scene and has been voted by the London newspaper, The Independent and Times, as one of the top 20 Music Festivals in the world. It is a charity event whose proceeds go to orphans in Malawi.
