Architect | spouse = | children = 3 | homepage = Official website }} Alex O. Adegboye (born 21 July 1955 in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria) is a seasoned pastor and teacher of the Word of God. He is the senior pastor and the founder of the Word Alive Ministries a.k.a. The Stone Church which was inaugurated in April 1993. A Chartered Architect by profession, Pastor Alex Adegboye for many years was actively involved in Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, Nigeria, where he anchored the widely popular television programme, ‘The Happiest People on Earth’ (THP).

Biography

Born on July 21, 1955 in Offa, Kwara State, located in the North-Central part of Nigeria, Pastor Adegboye grew up in a family of thirteen children, six were from his mother and the others from some other women. Though his father was a serial polygamist, but he was also a very firm and disciplined man. Pastor Alex attended a mission school for his secondary school education – St Paul’s College, Wusasa, Zaria – where he learnt all the hymns. It was when he clocked ten years that he lost his mother in 1965. The whole family had gone home to Offa for a burial ceremony when she suddenly took ill under mysterious circumstances. Before anyone knew what was happening, she was gone. They had to bury her there. She had her last child in January and died in March, leaving behind a two-month old baby. The entire family was distraught. She had been a strong pillar in the family and her presence and drive was sorely missed.

As for the father, he was particularly devastated by the death of his wife. Unfortunately, he followed eight years later in 1973 while the young Alex was studying for his A’Levels. Again, this demise shook the whole family. Somehow, all the children knew that they had to survive against all odds. Moreover, fortunately, there was a good insurance policy put in place by the father that even after his demise, the payment of school fees was not a challenge for all the children. Nevertheless, the parental guidance and attention which otherwise would have been provided, was conspicuously missing.

After A’Levels, it was a common practice to work for a year before proceeding to the higher institution. After gaining the one year work experience, the determined Alex gained admission into the University of Lagos in 1974 to study Architecture. After his undergraduate studies, he progressed into the post graduate studies in Architecture and that was when he met the Lord. Since then, he has kept the fire burning, as he has contagiously influenced and consistently directed other people to the way of the Lord.

While he was with Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, he taught the inerrant word of God with passion and simplicity. In 1993, Word Alive Ministries a.k.a. The Stone Church International was inaugurated and the church has grown to 53 branches. An initiative tagged Grace Partners was established in 2016, with a mandate and impetus to plant churches around national and international borders.

He has written several books namely Scars of Faith; You are the Prophet of Your Life; The Battle for the Mind; Worry; Dig Again; Rope Holders; [...] Trap; Breaking Strongholds; The Secret Place; Classic Sermons; What to do After You have done Everything; With God You can Have Another Chance; Gold Nuggets etc. He continues to preach and teach God’s Word with exceptional accuracy and in-depth understanding.
