Zhang Jingtang
Zhang Jingtang (; December 1911 – October 4, 2012) was a Chinese politician who served as deputy secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Zhejiang Provincial Committee and vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Advisory Commission. A veteran revolutionary who joined the Communist movement during the Second Sino-Japanese War, he held numerous leadership positions in Zhejiang following the establishment of the People's Republic of China, including Party secretary of Jiaxing, Party secretary of Lishui, First Secretary of the CCP Hangzhou Municipal Committee, and secretary of the provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.
Biography
Zhang was born in Tai'an County, Shandong, in December 1911. He joined the revolutionary movement in November 1937 and became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in July 1938.
During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Zhang served in the Shandong Western People's Self-Defense Corps, where he successively became a squad leader and platoon commander. He later studied at the Military and Political Cadre and Workers' School of the CCP Shandong Bureau before serving as minister of workers' affairs and secretary of the mass organizations committee of the Ludong Special Committee. He subsequently held a number of political and organizational posts in the Binhai Border Region, including member of the regional mass organizations committee, president of the regional mass organizations federation, minister of the civil mobilization department of the Binhai Prefectural Committee, and secretary of the CCP Juxian County Committee.
After 1949, Zhang was transferred to Zhejiang, where he successively served as deputy secretary of the CCP Jiaxing Municipal Committee, head of a provincial work team, secretary of the CCP Hang County Committee, secretary of the CCP Lishui Prefectural Committee, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Agriculture, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Supply and Marketing Cooperative, director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, deputy director of the CCP Zhejiang Rural Work Department, secretary of the Secretariat of the Jiaxing Prefectural Committee, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Communist Party Zhejiang Provincial Committee, and again secretary of the CCP Lishui Prefectural Committee.
During the Cultural Revolution, Zhang was persecuted and sent to perform manual labor at a cadre school in the Lishui area. He returned to public office in September 1971 and subsequently served as deputy secretary and later secretary of the CCP Jiaxing Prefectural Committee. He was later promoted to member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Zhejiang Provincial Committee, deputy secretary of the provincial committee, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, and concurrently First Secretary of the CCP Hangzhou Municipal Committee. He subsequently served as deputy secretary of the provincial committee and vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Advisory Commission until his retirement in February 1994.
Zhang died in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on October 4, 2012, at the age of 100.
