Yuriatin
Yuriatin is the fictional town created by Boris Pasternak in his seminal novel Dr. Zhivago. It is described as the town nearest to the country estate of Zhivago's in-laws the Gromekos, known as Varykino, which is also fictional. Set in the Ural Mountains, Yuriatin is Pasternak's stand-in for the city of Perm, which became a battleground for counter-revolution activities between the Red (Bolsheviks) and White (pro-imperial) forces. Perm was strongly Soviet in culture and was the place of imprisonment for the last Tsar of Russia, Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia; the Grand Duke was executed outside of Perm on 12 June 1918.
Depending on translation of Dr. Zhivago, Yuriatin is alternately spelled Yuryatin.
