The Younus College of Engineering, Kollam, commonly known as YCET, is situated in Kollam,city of Kerala. Founded in 2002, it is one among India's premier engineering colleges.
General Information
The Younus College of Engineering, Kollam started functioning on 1 July 2002 as a part of the erstwhile University of Kerala, Kerala, India. The college campus is situated near Pallimukku,4 km from kollam (railway station). Extending over 20 acres of land, it has one of the best campuses in the kerala.
The main building resembles a spanner from the air, around which are spread the departmental buildings, library block, laboratories, workshops, hostels, staff quarters, and stadiums.The campus is also one of the greenest in the country,and has won accolades from environmentalists and nature enthusiasts alike.
This is a Self financing Engineering College in the private sector, recognised by Govt. of Kerala and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The College is affiliated to the University of Kerala. We are committed to promote and propagate quality and value based education at par with international standards. The College is well set to bring out competent quality engineers.
The younus College of Engineering, is one of the few technical institutions in South India, which admits students on a mostly meritorial basis through an All Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination. The students joining this college are the toppers of All Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination. Besides the regular BTech,the college also conducts BTech classes for meritorious Diploma Holders.
The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Research IISER, Trivandrum is currently functioning from the campus. The college also provides lab facilities to students of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology IIST, Trivandrum.
History
The Younus College of Engineering & Technology was started in the year 2002, by Fathima Memorial Educational Trust, at Manakkad, Vadakkevila, Kollam -10, 4 km east of Kollam Railway Station and just walkable distance from Pallimukku junction on N.H.47. This is a Self financing Engineering College in the private sector, recognised by Govt. of Kerala and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The College is affiliated to the University of Kerala. We are committed to promote and propagate quality and value based education at par with international standards. About the Trust
The Fathima Memorial Educational Trust was registered with a galaxy of educated members in 1991. The objective of the trust is to uplift the minory and down-troden backward people in the society and not for any profit motive, for the weal and welfare of the people. The trust is undertaking a number of social service activities such as free distribution of books and clothes to the poor people, scholarships to the deserving students, medical and financial aid to the old and poor people. The activities of the trust were growing in Leaps and Bounds. It is because of the propetic foresight, business acumen and ingenuity of the chairman Mr. Younus Kunju, EX MLA, the founder and chairman of the trust that the trust could succeed in establishing the organisation to its highest stature.

ISTE Students’ Chapter:

We have an energetic team behind ISTE -YCET chapter.
IEEE students’ Chapter:
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a non-profit organization, is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Through its global membership, the IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. Members rely on the IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services. IEEE also serves student members in colleges and universities around the world. YCET-IEEE chapter enabling student community to improve their knowledge domain.
Institution of Engineers (India) Students’ Chapter:
The Institution of Engineers students’ chapter will function from this academic year. This is the largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional society, established with a view to promote and advance the science, practice and business of engineering. IEI functions with and amongst the professional engineers, academicians and research workers and provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the government, the industries, the academic and the engineering community.
eXtra Curricular Activities
I3 Club (Industry Institution Interaction Club):
This Club maintains the interaction between the academia engineers and working engineers. Activity includes interaction through industrial visits on local, state and national level and students can take case study projects in working environment. Consultancy and tie up with some majour PSU’s and private companies are on the anvil.
BRIC (Business Reseach Incubation Centre):
BRIC is another platform that we are planning to take up final year project work to some working environment. Later they can switch over their budding industry to industrial parks or to some other suitable premises. This unique proposal targeting to create a new model among professional colleges.
YCET Alumni Association ( YcetAA):
Alumni Association has just formed in 2007, with a view to keep in touch with the old students and their Alma-Mater. Main aim is to tap the experience of the passed out students to enrich the budding engineers here in college.
NSS Unit:
The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME , popularly known as N.S.S. is a noble experiment in the academic framework. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained local level community interaction. It brings educational institutions closer to the society. It shows how to combine knowledge and action to achieve results which are desirable for community development. Over the short span of time YCET NSS unit has emerged as the kerala’s best technical cell. The department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India and Ministry of Human Resource Development (New Delhi) considers NSS as a priority programme and they continuously review its progress in order to strengthen it further. NSS Technical Cell state annual meet and distribution of state level awards has conducted here in this institution in a big way.
NSS Programme Officer: Mr. J Jafeesh, Lecturer in Applied Science. Student Clubs:
Energy Environment Conservation Club, Debate club, Literary Forum, Magazine Committe are among working student clubs intended to each activity as the name indicates. The main achievement in the last academic year was members of Energy Environment Conservation Club bagged the Kerala State Energy Conservation award instituted by Dept. of Power, Govt of Kerala for the best state level college project.
