Young Gays and Lesbians Around Moreland

The Young Gays and Lesbians Around Moreland (YGLAM) performing arts project was founded in November 1998 by Jemma M.and Vicky G., in the City of Moreland. The group is for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex youth aged between 14 - 25, and is open to youth all around Melbourne. The group was originally a support group for GLBTI youths in the Moreland area. YGLAM runs under Moreland Community Health Services, with CoCare1

The group started with only 2 members and its first performance occurred at Brunswick Town Hall. Since then the group has grown from 2 members to 10-15 members every year, including actors, set designers, lighting designers, sound designers and costume designers. They have done 12 performances to date, each with an emphasis on issues faced by GLBTI youths and the community in general.

YGLAM have also made a video - Just One Day, designed for high schools to deal with issue of sexuality, coming out and bullying.

In 2004, the group also designed a series of postcards to battle homophobia and to create an understanding in the community

2008 will see YGLAM, celebrating its 10th year anniversary, and will be doing a joint production with the Melbourne Youth Rainbow Chorus and The Melbourne Rainbow Band.

The current facilitators of YGLAM are Jemma M. and Danielle V.
