XoftSpySE
XoftSpySE is a proprietary tool designed to scan and remove a number of computer threats for Microsoft Windows systems including: spyware, adware, spybots, Trojan horse threats, malware, keyloggers, pop-up generators, and browser hijackers. Scanning includes examination of running processes, registry entries, files, and folders. There is the option to restore using back-up files. While there is free scanning for spyware threats, threat removal requires the payment of a license fee.
The makers of XoftSpySE, ParetoLogic Inc. continue to add new spyware definitions to their databases. As of November 2007, the database offered support for over 230,000 definition malware items. Both XoftSpySE and ParetoLogic Anti-Spyware applications utilize the same database. Automatic updates occur AbOUT once a week to address new malware variants. These malware threats are constantly being released to the general public and can easily infect a system by simply viewing Internet sites in what is referred to as a “drive-by download”.
XoftSpySE, does not include the real-time blocking and enhanced removal technology of its more recent predecessor. XoftSpySE is compatible with Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and XP but currently is not Windows Vista ready.
Prior to 2004, XoftSpy was considered rogue software by Spyware Warrior for reasons that included substandard advertising by affiliate channels and the fact that there was an unlawful clone of the program called SpyBurn. Spyware Warrior cleared this charge as “…XoftSpy has taken aggressive steps to reign in its affiliates (who were primarily responsible for the unsavory advertising) revised its license text, and released a new version of XoftSpy…” Furthermore, ParetoLogic takes an active stance in identifying and removing items that have been installed by rogue software vendors that make fraudulent claims in order to lure and entice users that are looking to rid their computers of malicious software.
Tested
The latest version of XoftSpySE was tested by Softpedia and found to be a 100% clean and can be installed by any user with no concern; “…it does not contain any form of malware, including but not limited to: spyware, viruses, trojans and backdoors.” Softpedia reviewed the product and stated: “The number of definitions is impressive and the software is easy to use and poses no problem.”
