Siphon Coffee History in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a very unique city of China. Due to the strong influence by the British colonists, Hong Kong has a unique mixed Chinese-Western culture. Due to the fact that Hong Kong had been ruled by Englishman for more than 150 years, tea has been adapted as a more common beverage than coffee during 1960's to 1980's. Thanks to the opening of Pacific Coffee Company, the first Seattle coffee house in 1992, coffee has become a very popular drink in Hong Kong. Hong Kong people are then exposed to all kinds of European-style coffee: espresso, latte, etc. In Hong Kong, the very first appearance of siphon coffee maker is to be found in UCC Vienna Cafe and Pokka Cafe (in 1989).
