Workstreaming

Workstreaming refers to a new model of business process enabled by the creation of workstreams, i.e. digital footprints and activity trails formed during work-related collaboration and communications. Workstreams and workstreaming are made possile through the use of specific technologies and the movements toward more open, distributed and accountable business processes. Workstreaming is a best practice of social business design (SBD).

Workstreaming technologies are an offshoot of web 2.0 and enterprise 2.0.

Workstreaming technology refers to a new set of enterprise social software products combining social media, streaming information and professional networking. Workstreaming enables the creation and capture of real-time work activity between individuals across all levels of the business value chain.

Workstreaming tools are often designed with architectures supporting real-time activity streams sometimes called flow applications but applied within the context of work. Early examples of software products using activity streams and flow include the Facebook Mini Feed and Twitter. Specific workstreaming products on the market today include, Workstreamer, Yammer and Socialcast.

Work Culture:

Workstreaming is a best practice instituted by businesses that desire increased openness and transparency (sometimes also referred to as socialprise or open enterprise). Such businesses place an emphasis on cultures of participation, centralized accountability and collaboration among a distributed workforce.
