Wisbar
WisBar was a freeware utility for the Windows Mobile (2000-2003) PDA platform that provides a replacement top toolbar with a variety of extended functions - such as a task manager and a close button that truly exits another application. It was developed actively until its creator, Walker, became too ill to continue development. At that point he made it open-source - and invited others to develop the code for their own uses (as long as they remained freeware and retained the Wisbar title. After his subsequent death the project was picked up by a number of developers - notably Chris McKay of Lakeridge Software - and is referred to a Wisbar Advance. He added skinning (graphical customisation) and audio alert facilities. The software was continually re-written up to a point (v1.3) that all of the original code had been replaced. At this point the software was rename 'Wisbar Advance 2' and was released as a commercial title (the 'Wisbar' name was retained out of respect for the original project).
