WINGS: Women IN Great Sciences
WINGS: Women IN Great Sciences
WINGS is a broad, cross faculty network aimed at women at all levels of the Faculty of Science at the University of Lund, Sweden and related industries. The network focus on research, scientific goals and networking.
Background
The network was initiated by co-workers at the Dept. of Geology in 2003 and was in the beginning an informal regular lunch club discussing science, careers and equality issues. During 2007 the network expanded to include female co-workers at the Faculty of Sciences, LU and related industries. WINGS believe that by creating strong scientific networks, it is possible to highlight the collective competence within the network and in the interactions with others. WINGS have contact with women in academia, industry, research institutes and funding agencies.
Members and Organisation
The members are female scientists that are employed as researchers working outside the university, new PhD students and post docs are also welcome to join the network. In 2011 the committee consists of Maren Wellenreuther (coordinator), Pia Romare, Johanna Stadmark, Charlotte Sparrenbom, Anna Broström, Helena Filipsson, Sindra Peterson Årsköld, Edith Hammer, Frida Rosengren, and Daniel Conley.
WINGS are members of the European Platform of Women Scientists, EPWS.
Activities
WINGS organize regular lunch-meetings with invited speakers to inspire discussion and development of research, career opportunities, innovation and the ongoing process of change for equality. Since 2008 WINGS also gather for an annual two-day retreat: "Research in progress". All participants give presentation on research/work progress and listen to one or more invited speakers. There is also time for activities on e.g. popular science writing and project planning.
