Wiki MyErasmus
The Wiki MyErasmus is a project to create an encyclopedia dedicated to the Erasmus programme with the goal of exchanging information AbOUT studying abroad. To achieve this, a MediaWiki web site has been implemented to gather the Erasmus experience.
Organisation
In 2005, Erasmus students in Spain had the idea to start an Erasmus encyclopedia to deal with the main issues exchange students are confronted with: choice of destination, administrative process, transportation, accommodation, daily life and student life in a foreign country.
Aims
The Wiki MyErasmus has defined four main objectives: increase the number of students willing to take part in the Erasmus programme; help them decide which country match their expectations; inform them better and help them to find the information they need.
Description
The Wiki MyErasmus is currently composed of a web-based wiki software application, an Internet Discussion Board and a Blog. The Wiki is the main application where people can deal with their own experience in a specific destination. The website is aimed at former, current and future Erasmus students, as well as people responsible of the International office in Erasmus institutions and teachers who are willing or have previously taken an Erasmus position abroad.
The encyclopedia contains information from the European Commission website http://ec.europa.eu/ about the Lifelong Learning programme in general (which includes the Erasmus programme).
People wishing to participate in the project choose between three profiles:
- as a student
- as a profesor
- as an educational institution
After which they can create new pages, edit and modify the content in order to share their Erasmus programme experience. According to their profile, the page they create and edit will be different: a teacher and a former Erasmus student will talk about their arrival, settings and daily life in a foreign country, whereas someone from the International office will deal with the administrative part.
