Whistle Stop Amusement Park

Whistle Stop Amusement Park was a small now-defunct amusement park created in Frankston, Victoria, Australia.

History

The Park was created in the early 1960s and operated for AbOUT 10 years. It was established by an ex service station owner and all rides were created or renovated in-house. The park was not a huge success but was adjacent to a caravan park which had the first ensuite sites in Australia and was very profitable. The first item built was a narrow gauge railway using a renovated engine from the West Melbourne gasworks. This engine was sold to the Puffing Billy railway on the parks demise. Rides such as a paddle steamer which ran on a small lake,Go Karts and a Chair Lift were gradually added over the years

The approximately 1.5 kilometer railway, and many of the other rides were built with assistance from friends. There is little documentation of the Parks existence as it was sold for housing as the suburb expanded and land rates became prohibitively expensive. There is a small park called Whistle Stop Reserve in Skye Rd which covers some of Whistle Stop's area. The rest is now a housing estate.
